What does it mean when half of my toe nail is brown/black?

It happened after i played basketball one day. It dosnt hurt anymore and it dosnt look infected. But half of my toe nail is brown/black. It been brown/black for about 1 month and dosnt look like its going away.

It sounds like someone stepped on it while you were playing or your toe was jammed up in the toe box of your shoe. It is bruised. It will have to grow completely out. This will take months, but you will notice the brown/black part getting higher and higher towards the tip of your toe as it grows. Eventually, when you trim your toenails, you will cut the damaged part off. Keeping your toenails trimmed and make sure your shoes fit properly can help.What does it mean when half of my toe nail is brown/black?

It probably means that either A.) You injured it somehow, or B.) It got infected

If it doesn't spread toward the cuticle, it should grow out with your nail. It takes a LONG time for a whole toenail to grow out - months, maybe even a year if its your big toe. If it doesn't hurt and it doesn't grow in any direction but toward the end of your toe, just let it grow it out. Not attractive but not a big deal.

It depends how it is done and what type of hands and nails it's on. If it's on short nails then it can look a bit on the Punk side. If the nails are slightly longer then it looks more on the Goth side (nothing wrong with that, unless you're scared of being called one). And if they're long, where there is 1/4'; or more of white nail growth then they look a bit on the Drag side. If they're done nicely then yes they look cute. If you're pairing it with black or darker colored outfits it looks sophisticated.

Take it to a shoe repair place if you can, they have all kinds of great solvents. If you can't, put some nail polish remover on a Q-tip and use it very sparingly to get off the polish. Keep in mind that leather is cow skin, so this should work fine. Then get a good shoe polish and work it in until the area turns black again. If they are shiny boots, you may lose some of the shine.
If you are set on doing it yourself, try using Non-Acetone nail polish remover on a small spot first and see how it affects the leather.


Otherwise, seek advice from a shoe repair shop.
you might try goo gone or WD40. with both of them being oil based products they would not be harming your leather.

Just make sure you have a bottle of nail polish remover and some cotton pads. Black nail polish tends to stain and leave little bits clinging to the edges of your nails so if you put on a base coat first that helps. Most nail polish pretty easy to get off. Black nail polish does stain though. Annoys the hell outta me. Just do a clear coat first.

I just wear whatever color I feel like. Black is a cool color, especially with sparkles in it. I love Pure Ice nailpolishes. Whatever color you feel comfortable wearing, I say is in! Make your own style, life is more interesting and fun that way :) Definately leave it on!

not hard to find, and not more expensive.
get some professional pure acetone at the paint store and take cotton and scrub the nail beds. if it still does not come off then you need to buff your nails. that should do it
first try to chip it off. if that doesn't work use a q tip...saturate it in polish remover so it's literally dripping. then work at it. you'll go through quite a few, but last time this happened to me, it worked well.

go to home improvement center and ask for pure acetone. It is stronger than nail remover and should work. Goof off may also work as it removes paint and will not harm the surface it contains acetone as well. If you used nail polish remover WITH acetone, pure acetone might not help as much as you would hope. Personally, I've had good luck with using Spot Shot to get paint off my carpet [although never nail polish.]





I also second the motion of cleaning the area very well with clean water because all the chemicals on your carpet could prevent future solutions from working as well, as well as bleaching the area.
hmmm...considering now that you have mixed all these items on your carpet...I would suggest that you rub the area by cold water first, then use ACETONE!! it will be removed :)

I don't think it is you should be able to wear whatever you like year round.





If you are looking for an alternative you might try OPI ';Romeo %26amp; Juliet'; (I love that shade...) and you can wear it year round. It's dark enough for when you want to wear darker colors and not as black as ';OPI Black Tie Optional.'; I have worn both on my toes and it's looks classy and sleek.
I wear black nail polish in the summer all the time.


I personally don't think the color of your nails should really matter, it's more of a clothing difference between summer and fall.

If you shake the bottle too much you'll get crazy air bubbles. A great quick dry nailpolish I use is the Maybelline 50 second one. It goes on really easily, dries evenly and quick, and it looks great. Definately try it.

My friend has this problem and she really insecure about it. It been like that for a few months. It doesn't hurt her or anything. First of take her to see a doc, nothing on your bod should be black, honestly it sounds like gangrene; I hope she's not a diabetic. Anyway, go to Sally's Beauty Supply and find a little brown bottle of Tea Tree Oil, it will smell very strong kinda like Pin-Sol. Brush this oil on the offending toe 1 - 4 times a day if this doesn't help within 2 weeks definitely go see a doc.How to get rid of a black toe nail?
Black toenails are usually a sign of injury to the nail bed. If it is an injury, then it should have fallen out.





If it is a nail fungus, then it will take some serious, consistent treatment. Vinegar rubbed over the nail makes the area acidic which stops fungus from growing. Steep a green tea bag for 5 min and let it cool then soak the toe also. Do it 2 or 3 times a day. Tea tree oil 3 times a day will help also as it is a natural anti-fungal. Eat yogurt, stop sugar, drink lots of water. Fungal infections are a symptom of a body out of balance.

It sounds to me like a traumatized toe nail. Did she drop ant objects on her toe prior to this happening? Maybe stubbed it good and hard by accident. it sounds like she has fungus, i heard that you can dip your feet in white vinegar 3 times a day until it clears up and thats supposed to kill the fungus and clear up the nail. but i dont know if it works. or she can always go to the doctor so he can check it out. hope it works good luck to your friend.

Don't just wear the same old monochromatic black color. Mix it up with designs, with the most basic Black/French Manicure tips, diagonal stripes, Black/Silver French Manicure tips, multi-colored stars, etc. Get creative!!

well it worked for me, it's called orly i think but you can get it at sally's.
Wet and Wild makes a good cheap black polish that you can buy at places like Wal mart....so you know it's cheap. If you really want it to stay after you put on a layer of polish cover the color with a (VERY) thin layer or super glue, then put on one more layer of color when the glue it dry(make sure it is dry) All you have to do to keep your polish from drying up in the bottle is make sure you get the cap back on tightly after each use, and if you find you have polish built up around the neck,or in the cap, clean it off with polish remover. Good luck.

You can wear Black Nail Polish with a Pink or any bright color design. I only wear Black Nail Polish with Designs. Like near Halloween, I got my nails done. I had a Pink Skull on one, a yellow bat on another and many other colors (1 different color for each finger). It's not really a huge turn off. What does a black loose toe nail mean?

My brother injured his toe in soccer a month or so ago and at first it just his entire toe just turned black but today it's only black a bit on the bottom of the nail, and the rest of the nail is whitish and it's super loose, like you could pull it out. Your only hope of it curing properly would be to ditch the black tips and sculpt the nail instead. Use several, very thin layers of black gel and cure on both sides. When finish filing, simply pay attention to any soft spots in the nail. This would indicate the gel has not fully cured. In that case, stop filing and cure again for two minutes. Then continue to file, just keep your eyes open for soft spots. Black tips with gel will not cure from the underside of the nail. The only way around it is to sculpt the nail, as I mentioned. The same goes for white tips. I suggest not using tips at all. In my opinion, sculpting is the only way to do nails, whether its acrylic, or UV gels. But, that's just me. And many other techs as well...Can you use black nail tips with nsi gel ?? not sure if it will cure properly or if it will lift?

Try a product called ';Goof Off';. Make sure to use it first in place you can not notice, like underneath where the fabric is overlapped on the bottom, just to be sure it does not cause your fabric to discolor. The ';Goof off'; is a paint remover and should work for this project.Whats the best way to clean nail polis(black)from a sofa?

My sister is really into the nails thing... And she said something about how black nail polish is made differently so like, if it's old, it gets super thick, whereas other nail polishes become runny. I think that may have something to do with it.





You could also try a base coat before you put the black on, that's supposed to help it stay on and it makes it so that the black won't stain your nails.
I am pretty sure that black nail polish chips either because of the brand,which you might be having trouble with, or because of the pigment. I am pretty sure it is the pigment becuase I sport black colored nail polish too. I don't think all nail polish lasts forever though, so my advice is to put some Sally Hanson Clear coat on top and rock it while it looks hot!
I really like Rimmel's nail polish. I find that they work great and are extremely inexpensive. They have two different black polishes, Black Ink and Black Out. Both are great. Black Out is part of the fast drying collection and just came out. One other quick tip I would give you to help slow down the chipping is to apply light layer of polish. If you goop it on, it will chip a lot more quickly.
I use NYC Black Nail Polish.


It doesn't chip as much as other nail polishes.


I just painted mine about 2 days ago.


And they still havent chipped.


They last about 2 weeks without chipping.


The smell isn't that bad. And it's a Nice Jet Black color.

i have no idea... i use Sally Hanson nail polish. all except 'hard as nails extreme wear' stay on. but, i spend ALOT of time with my hands in water, so i kinda gave up on nailpolish and just use a black sharpie with a clear coat ontop... sounds stupid, i know... but it works! :P





and with acetone-based nail polish remover sharpie DOES come off! :)
I use NYC.... the color is great, and it doesn't chip. Just apply 2 coats(make sure to let each coat dry before putting the next coat on! Then add a topcoat.


And if you wan the black color for a while, apply another coat every 2-3 weeks.
I have that same problem, but coating the paint more than twice usually works for me.

Well, if I were writing it, even though it would technically be hazardous to your health. There are plenty of movies that do all kinds of stunts that don't have realistic reactions. I'd say something like, He/she jumped into the tub little did he/she know that it was full of black nail polish. He/she was stuck in bed for months and the nail polish didn't come off for a considerable time after he got better. He tried scrubbing and scrubbing for hours with little progress. Ironically the only part that did come off were the nails on his fingers and toes.

Your hair would be stiff and hard when the polish dried and you'd have to shave it off because the chemicals to remove the polish would ruin it. Your skin would eventually flake off but in the meantime the polish would crack and be stiff until it was removed or flaked off with your dead skin.
first off all ud be all black and using nailpolish remover will take forever AND it would ruin your skin obviously.. your hair will be dry, hard and messed up unless you also use nailplosh remover which will dry out your hair or ruin your scalp.

First thing I would do would be to check out www.webmd.com and see if you can find out anything there.





Secondly, chances are you just got a blood blister. I've gotten several playing baseball when a pitch hits the finger and smashes them.





However, I would just let it go away on its own, I wouldn't pop it, especially if it isn't hurting. A lot of times people pop blisters to let the fluid out. If you choose to do that, make sure you put neosporn and bandaids on it.

What I would reccomend doing is applying ice to try to get the swelling down. You poke a hole in the nail to release pressure, but it does increase infection risks. If the swelling dies down and there is an reduction in pressure under the nail don't bother it. If new symptoms appear or if it causes extreme discomfort go to a doctor. He can fix it with a hypodermic needle! Try to not get your finger to ';pruney'; either though, because that can make the skin swell, prompting the nail to fall off. Best of Luck!

I think it's actually pretty trendy right now. You'll see a lot of very dark reds, almost black, out now, along with some deep dark blues. It's a last hurrah for the fall looks - then we'll switch to the sheer pinks and bright corals for spring and summer.





Those women are doing something a little different, and if they are done neatly and carefully, then I like how they look. Black is a color too and you'll see it on goths and fashionistas alike - it's an equal-opportunity color and anyone can rock it if they have the guts. If you don't like it, that's all good - it's all about preferences. You know what you like and that rocks too I'm sure.
I'm not keen on painted toenails full stop. It just shows that the person has way too much time on their hands and no hobbies if they take off their shoes and socks and have painted toenails. It could be acceptable in summer with open shoes but what is the point if you cover them up?
Blacktoes intolerant...can you still drink milk? What about black milk? What about cheesy black toes? xx
If you have nice feet it can look edgy and quite sexy but if you have not very nice feet it can look awful..each to their own i think..but personaly i love it and paint mine black all the time..but i have been told i have very nice shaped feet !! if thats possible
i sometimes paint my toes black with white polka dots. i think it looks nice and frankly don't care if any-one else has a problem with it. if your so bothered about it throw nail varnish remover on them/

it would look cute maybe if you put just one rhinestone in the center of each nail...or maybe just one rhinestone on each of your middle fingers...that way your hands aren't all ';blinged'; out...rhinestones with black polish on toes looks super cute too! especially if the big toes have rhinestones lining the tip, and one rhinestone on the rest of the toes...good luck!

What to do about a black toe nail?

My 2 year old son dropped a heavy object on his big toe and after a few days a black bruise has appeared under the nail. Its not on the nail as it does not move as his nail grows. It is not painful to him but it happened a few months ago and it shows no signs of going away.





I have shown the injury to a nurse who told me that it was not infected and there is nothing to worry about.





However it would be nice to know how much longer it is likely to be before it goes completely?

You could try these. Not sure which will work for you. Include in his diet, raw cabbage, and parsley. If he does not want to eat these vegetables raw as a part of a salad, then you may make drink such as carrot or beet juice and blend in small amount of each. (Not so much to overpower the taste of the main juice)





Freshly juiced orange is also good to include in his diet.





You may crush about a quarter to a half clove of garlic and mix in with his meals. Garlic is a very good blood thinner and so will work well to disperse blood.





Externally you may use the following





Soak bruise area in warm water. Or spread a towel dipped in warm water over the the affected area and left to cool. Repeat this process 3 to 4 times per day.





Or Crush a hand full of parsley and apply to bruised area. Apply regularly with the fresh herb. You could use bandage to hold herb in place.





Or Bathe the area with Witch Hazel two to three times per day, which disperses the blood and encourages healing. Or you may soak a gauze or clean piece of cloth in Which Hazel and bandage to affected area.What to do about a black toe nail?
My best friend's son had this problem. It is a blood clot, don't panic. it's just a bruise where blood pools in one place. On any nail, it takes long for it go away, but it will. If it starts hurting, then there is pressure developing under the nail and it has to be released. So if that happens, take him to the Pediatrician, but otherwise, he should be alright in time. Keep a watch on it. If he cries, or winces when you put his shoes on, then you know he is feeling pain.
The nail will continue to grow and eventually the black will be gone. Just think how much the nail grows in a month. For the black to go completely could take 6 months. If the nail is black all over it will eventually die and will come off almost as a whole nail. The new one will form and grow when that happens.
Yes, many times. This is what I do, I sterilize a needle and clean the site. Relax the kid, this doesn't hurt, but some kids get jumpy, insert the tip of the needle between the nail and the skin, again there is no pain. The needle should then go easily into the area, remove and watch the old blood flow out, wash and use any good antibiotic ointment and cover with a bandage.
my toe is black at the top. i went doctor and he prescribed tablets witch was one a day for 7 weeks. he thought i had fungal infection. i looked up toe nail fungal infection on the internet and it says that toe will be yellow or green. anyway its not fungal infection. ive had mine for about 9 months and still have it. ease your mind and look up black toe nail on the internet.
Yeah, I've done that landing ski jumps wrong. It'll take a few months or so to go away, depending on how fast the nail grows. I would think it would take relatively less time in a 2 year old as they are growing faster.
the black under the nail is dry blood, nothing really you can do, unless it bothers him, and nail replace themselves.just make sure he has no infection there.
I have had similar with my toes nails and fingers and they can take an awfully long time to go away. Just one of those annoying niggling things I am afraid.



It takes a long time. Anyone who's ever hit their thumb with hammer knows it takes months. Its nothing to worry about.
